Different Types of DeVilbiss Air Compressors for Sale

DeVilbiss Air Compressor

If you find a DeVilbiss air compressor, it is probably an old model because the company of the same name that used to produce them has been absorbed into a tangle of corporate acquisitions. The machines that it continues to manufacture are now marketed under the brand name Ex-Cell after it purchased Ex-Cell Manufacturing.

Ten years after this purchase, the company was, in turn, absorbed by the Pentair Companies that also owned Porter Cable and Delta product lines. In 2005, Pentair was sold to DeWalt Corporation. The original DeVilbiss air compressor has since been renamed twice, first as Devair then DVAir.

The new machines are offered as oil-free, rotary screw, and piston types. The huge oil-free machines can generate up to 50 PSI with a CFM of 8830 and are used for industrial purposes such as in the vacuum production in the glass and paper industries, and in oil booms.

The rotary screw designs are a little less powerful than their oil-free cousins. Their power plants can have an output ranging from 7.5 to 50-horsepower. These are intended mainly for commercial operation.

The piston types are the smallest of the models and can be equipped with 1 to 11-horsepower engines. These types are suited for the more serious do-it-yourselfers. There are, however, piston models with 30-horsepower generators which could be used by contractors, car shops, and garages.
