Powermate PL1581109 Invector Air Compressor
Incorporating the company’s patented Invector technology, the Powermate PL1581109 Invector Air Compressor is equipped with a multi-fin cooling system that helps keep temperatures down, and a silencer intake port that keeps operating noise to acceptable levels. This means you can take the compressor anywhere, including confined spaces, such as the basement, greenhouse, hobby room, or workshop, with minimum ear protection.
The Powermate compressor relies on a motor with a 1.5 running horsepower that plugs into a 120-volt power outlet. However, in case you need to work in an area far from an outlet, you can use an extension cord for the purpose. This is because unlike other compressors, the Powermate PL1581109 requires only half of the starting current usually needed by traditional induction motors.
Crafted from aluminum, the direct drive air pump is lightweight. It runs without the need for oil, making it a low-maintenance type as there is no need to periodically check oil levels, and change or top off the oil. It also means that the air pumped into the air tank is clean, and that your work will not be smeared with traces of oil. As an oil-free pump, it easily starts even in cold weather when oil in the motor can become viscous impeding the smooth flow of its moving components.
Both the motor and air pump are encased in a shroud that integrates easy-to-read gauges indicating air pressure inside the tank as well as that of the air flowing out of it, air regulator, and air outlet. All of these are perched atop a vertical air tank with a capacity of 11 gallons.
Painted in bright red, the Powermate PL1581109 Invector Air Compressor is not easy to miss. It stands on a pair of wheels with rubber tires for ease of moving from one work area to another.
The air compressor has an operating pressure starting at 95 PSI to a maximum of 125 PSI, which is quite sufficient for most air-powered tools. At 40 PSI, airflow is at 6 CFM, while at 90 PSI, airflow is at 4 CFM.
Dimensions of the machine are 17.5″ W x 15.5″ D x 38″ H. It weighs 56 pounds.
